TRELLEBORG SHIPS 600TH LNG SHIP SHORE LINK

I am delighted to announce that we have recently passed a major milestone with the shipment of our 600th SeaTechnikTM Ship Shore Link (SSL) system for the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Industry.

The SeaTechnikTM SMART SSL system will be installed on a 174,000m3 LNG Carrier (Hull number 2411), being built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) at its Okpo ship yard, Goeje Island, South Korea, for Teekay shipping Limited.

The majority of the world’s LNG cargo fleet and terminals are equipped with SSL technology, a system for communicating the emergency shutdown (ESD) signals, telephone and process data required when cargo transfer is undertaken from ship-to-shore and from shore-to-ship.

We’re proud of our track record in customer service and innovation. Teekay and DSME have been key customers for us since the introduction of the first SeaTechnikTM SSL product 15 years ago. Innovation is an essential part of who we are and we have constantly evolved our technology, from the first analogue systems, to the latest digital systems controlling complex Floating Regasification and Storage Units (FSRU) and LNG fuelling for marine vessels – which include full process data transfer between vessels and terminals.

We view the support service as equally important to the technology itself. A ship costing many tens of thousands of dollars per day to run, and carrying a cargo worth several million dollars, is an expensive asset to have inactive because the SSL interface cannot be connected to transfer the LNG cargo. Our SeatechnikTM SSL technology, and importantly, 24/7 service to test, maintain and repair equipment has a proven track record in making sure this will not happen.

In such an important market, and one that has seen many SSL suppliers come and go, often leaving customers exposed due to lack of support, we are proud of the fact the Trelleborg invested for the long term, and the reward is the 600 SSL milestone.

SEE YOU AT GASTECH 2014

My colleagues and I will be attending Gastech 2014 in Korea next week. As one of the world’s favorite meeting places for energy professionals working in the oil and gas industry, Gastech provides the ideal platform for us to exhibit our latest product innovations and get some deeper insights into what other delegates see as the most critical issues in the market.

At the show, we’ll be showcasing our brand new Compact Series of Quick Release Hooks (QRHs) which have been designed specifically for smaller and simpler mooring applications, where traditional large and more complex QRHs are not appropriate.

The hooks combine the knowledge of our vastly experienced engineering team with FEA software, and provide an optimized solution for less complex and lower rating mooring applications. They represent a viable alternative to bollards for commercial ports and fuel wharfs, and could also be used in the rapidly developing small-scale LNG sector.

In addition, we’ll also have our Seatechnik™ Universal Safety Link (USL) on stand, a truly innovative product optimized for the small scale LNG sector. The USL was developed in response to the market requirement for a Ship-Shore Link (SSL) which addressed the needs of the LNG marine fuel and small scale transfer market.

We have also developed a new LNG application briefing, ‘Leading-edge Performance in LNG”, which we’ll have available for delegates to take away from our stand. It discusses the evolution of docking and mooring solutions, fender systems and transfer technology across a range of LNG applications.

HERE’S TO A SUCCESSFUL 2013 PROJECT MANAGEMENT & TECHNICAL CONFERENCE!

The beginning of March saw our Project Management and Technical Conference in Phuket, Thailand, which provided a great opportunity to share best practice by getting everyone together in one place.  Working as a global team, I think it’s important to come together regularly to align our objectives and make sure we are working to each others highest standards.

We shared some interesting commercial and technical challenges facing each of the regions in which we operate; as well as some of the key findings of our latest rubber technology research, which investigated the difference in performance between high quality and low cost fenders.

We also had a very exciting introduction to our newly acquired company, SeaTechnik and I firmly believe that having them onboard will bolster and expand our berthing, docking and mooring offering, building on our specialism in LNG and taking us towards offering a “one-stop-shop” for LNG projects.

We enjoyed a series of interesting presentations from our legal counsel, discussing the importance of contract review and risk management, our Vice President of Purchasing provided us with his thoughts on purchasing excellence and best practice; as we were joined by Andreas Brunlof from McKinsey who provided us with his take on project management excellence.

We even found the time to head into Patong to get a feel for the local culture and more importantly apply what we have learn’t – negotiating with the locals for the sale of gifts to take home for family and friends!  Negotiation is the key to what we do here at Trelleborg, not simply from a sales perspective but also from a procurement one too.  We are striving to make our organisation as lean and flexible as possible, with effective procurement giving us the opportunity to pass cost savings on to our customers.
