TRELLEBORG QINGDAO FACTORY RECEIVES IECEx CERTIFICATION

Trelleborg’s marine systems operation in Qingdao has received International Electrotechnical Commission Explosive (IECEx) certification for the manufacture of explosion-proof equipment. As a result, Trelleborg is able to completely manufacture and calibrate its Quick Release Hook (QRH) Load Cells in-house, ensuring complete control over manufacturing, calibration and quality processes.

While many QRH manufacturers outsource the machining of their Load Cells, we’ve long invested in our in-house facilities. Housing state-of-the-art CNC machines, gauging equipment and a calibration instrument, our Qingdao factory enables us to manufacture and calibrate Load Cells for our entire product range in-house, meaning we have full control over the design and quality of everything we produce – something no other QRH manufacturer is able to guarantee.

Trelleborg’s Load Cells, which are fitted within QRHs to measure mooring line load tension, have also received IECEx certification for use in oil and gas facilities with a local temperature range of -60 °C to +60 °C. This follows a significant redesign of the Load Cells, which saw the elimination of moisture entry points to extend life expectancy and the temperature range at which they can be successfully deployed.

While many QRH Load Cell manufacturers are IECEx certified, their Load Cells are only certified for operation in facilities with a local temperature range of -20 °C to +60 °C. As a result, Trelleborg’s extended temperature range means that it is globally the only QRH manufacturer capable of guaranteeing hazardous area safety for mooring applications in locations across countries such as Russia and Canada to name but two. In these countries it is not uncommon for temperatures to drop below -20 °C.

Installed since 1972 at facilities worldwide, Trelleborg’s QRHs enable mooring lines to be safely secured, quickly and easily released even when loaded to their safe working load limit. With sizes and configurations to suit all applications, their field proven features enhance safety, reliability, ease of use and ensure compliance to international standards.

TRELLEBORG LAUNCHES NEW STANDARDIZED QUICK RELEASE HOOK SOLUTION

Here at Trelleborg, we have provided countless facilities with the customized, high performance solutions needed to optimize their mooring operations. With that in mind, I am delighted to reveal that we have taken the extensive knowledge and expertise gained through our SmartMoor range and applied it to developing a new, streamlined product for customers with less complex requirements, such as those in commercial ports and harbours.

With the ReadyMoor range, a standardized solution that provides the fastest lead times, we now have the ideal solution.

Thanks to its ‘ready-made’ approach, the ReadyMoor range provides a solution that offers the safety and operational benefits of QRHs, whilst passing on commercial benefits to the customer. The series is available with average delivery of just 12 weeks, the time it takes to assemble, test and ship the product.

The compact design of the new range ensures a small installation footprint, minimizing deck space usage and installation costs.

The new hook also reduces maintenance requirements through a single stage locking mechanism, which has fewer moving parts and is available in double or triple hook units with a Safe Working Load (SWL) from 50 tonnes to 150 tonnes. Models with an SWL of 60 tonnes and higher are also available with integral capstans, if required.

A NEW COMPACT SERIES OF QUICK RELEASE HOOKS

We are pleased to announce that this week, we launched a brand new series of Quick Release Hooks (QRHs), designed specifically for smaller and simpler mooring applications, where traditional large and more complex QRHs are not appropriate.

Due to an increase in vessel size and the ongoing need to optimize safety, there has been an increasing demand for load monitoring and remote release functionality to reduce operators’ exposure to danger through controlled release of the mooring lines.

The need for these capabilities in a more compact footprint has largely driven the development of QRH Compact Series, improving the efficiency and safety of mooring operations at commercial ports and wharfs.  The new hooks can also be used as a replacement for more traditional bollard applications.

Additionally, we are also committed to our business in the LNG sector and believe many of the features of the new series of hooks will meet the needs of the small-scale LNG market as it evolves.

The Compact Series combines the knowledge of our vastly experienced engineering team with FEA software, providing an optimized solution for less complex and lower rating mooring applications.

The new hook also reduces maintenance requirements through a single stage locking mechanism which has fewer moving parts, and is available in a range of designs including single, double, triple, and quad hooks in capacities up to 50T.

My colleagues and I will be attending Gastech 2014 in Korea next week. As one of the world’s favorite meeting places for energy professionals working in the oil and gas industry, Gastech provides the ideal platform for us to exhibit our latest product innovations and get some deeper insights into what other delegates see as the most critical issues in the market.

At the show, we’ll be showcasing our brand new Compact Series of Quick Release Hooks (QRHs) which have been designed specifically for smaller and simpler mooring applications, where traditional large and more complex QRHs are not appropriate.

The hooks combine the knowledge of our vastly experienced engineering team with FEA software, and provide an optimized solution for less complex and lower rating mooring applications. They represent a viable alternative to bollards for commercial ports and fuel wharfs, and could also be used in the rapidly developing small-scale LNG sector.

In addition, we’ll also have our Seatechnik™ Universal Safety Link (USL) on stand, a truly innovative product optimized for the small scale LNG sector. The USL was developed in response to the market requirement for a Ship-Shore Link (SSL) which addressed the needs of the LNG marine fuel and small scale transfer market.

We have also developed a new LNG application briefing, ‘Leading-edge Performance in LNG”, which we’ll have available for delegates to take away from our stand. It discusses the evolution of docking and mooring solutions, fender systems and transfer technology across a range of LNG applications.
