TRELLEBORG RECEIVES HILTI ANCHOR DESIGN TRAINING

Trelleborg’s marine systems operation recently became the first marine fender manufacturer globally to receive extensive anchor design software training from Hilti, after hosting the manufacturer of chemical anchor fasteners at its Engineering and Design Center of Excellence in Ahmedabad, India.

The training saw Hilti experts showcase how Trelleborg engineers can utilize their software to calculate the required resin length for anchors up to M39 in size. Other areas of in-depth analysis included the types of chemicals used in Hilti’s anchor fasteners, their bond strengths and how its fasteners are installed on concrete berthing structures.

Mission critical equipment such as fender systems need to be installed correctly, and anchors play a fundamental role in ensuring that they are, and that they can successfully provide a first line of defence for ports.

With a superior resin strength to its competitors, Hilti’s wide range of injectable mortars are widely regarded as the leading solution used at ports and terminals across the globe. Therefore, it is vital that when designing our anchors, our team ensure they are fully compatible with Hilti’s mortars. The training provided us with everything we need to know to do so.

To accommodate increasing vessel sizes with optimal performance and efficiency, many of Trelleborg’s fenders require anchors larger than M39 in size, beyond the remit of Hilti’s anchor design software. Therefore our engineers have established a proprietary tool to calculate the required resin length for such anchors.

Hilti’s training provided the ideal platform to validate the calculation tool that our team has developed internally, and with the help of their experts establish industry testing requirements for chemical anchors larger than M39, helping to eliminate the use of low quality chemical anchor fasteners across the globe.

Trelleborg’s Hilti training is part of a new initiative for engineers at our Engineering and Design Center of Excellence. The initiative provides practical exposure to those that primarily work in a software-based environment.

Attracting more than 18,000 high caliber visitors from across the globe, Sea Japan is the country’s largest and fastest growing international commercial marine show.

The Japanese market is very quality-driven, which complements the Trelleborg ethos and our unwavering commitment to taking a smarter approach to port and terminal efficiency.

With that in mind, Sea Japan provides the ideal platform to showcase our comprehensive range of advanced, high performance solutions to one of Trelleborg’s key markets.

On stand, we’ll be showcasing our range of pneumatic and foam fenders. As an ideal ship protection medium for load sensitive structures such as LNG vessels and ocean platforms, Trelleborg’s ISO 17357-1:2014 compliant pneumatic fenders feature high energy absorption with low reaction force. Trelleborg foam fenders are super tough due to a unique manufacturing process and have high energy absorption for their reactive load.

Our booth will also feature our range of IALA compliant, low maintenance, robust navigation buoys. From 1.25 to 3.6m in diameter, these provide a realistic alternative to traditional steel buoys. These modular buoys are lighter, easily transported, lower maintenance and can be deployed using smaller maintenance vessels.

We’ll also be demonstrating its SeaTechnik™ Ship-Shore Link (SSL) system which has been an industry standard in large scale LNG transfer for nearly 20 years and has applications in onshore and offshore applications.

TRELLEBORG TO HOST SEMINAR IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PIANC

With PIANC continuing to set best practice guidance for so many, and varied, issues pertinent to waterborne transport infrastructure, we felt that it was only natural to further strengthen our longstanding association.

As such, we will host an exclusive one-day seminar in partnership with PIANC for port consultants. Held on 30th October at the Atlantic Imbizo Conference and Function Studio in Cape Town, South Africa, the free to attend seminar provides us with the ideal opportunity to develop a better understanding of the needs of consultants, so we can evolve our offering to meet them.

The seminar will see Trelleborg experts discuss a range of key industry issues, including the importance of rubber compound composition in the whole-life performance of fender systems and how consultants can determine the formulation of the fenders they procure. This will see our technical expert, Mishra Kumar, discuss mixing and compound modulus as an effective and robust measure of fender performance. The seminar will also provide valuable insight on rubber and foam marine fender design and selection best practice, as well as the latest docking and mooring innovations to improve efficiency and optimize performance.

TRELLEBORG TO LAUNCH PORT INFRASTRUCTURE AND INNOVATION SEMINAR SERIES

Here at Trelleborg, we’re constantly looking for ways to develop our offering to meet new market needs. To do so, we try to ensure that we’re communicating with the market as much as possible to gain valuable insights and feedback on our offering. 

As such, we will be hosting two exclusive one-day seminars featuring the themes of port infrastructure and innovation. Held on 24th March at the Mercure Hotel, Den Haag Leidschendam in Holland, and on 26th March at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London, the free seminars will see myself and a number of colleagues, as well as a number of guest speakers from across the industry, discuss a range of key industry issues, including the optimization of whole-life performance in fender systems. The seminars will provide attendees with valuable insights into marine fender design and selection best practice, and the latest docking and mooring innovations to improve efficiency and improve performance.
