By Richard Hepworth, President of Trelleborg’s marine systems operation
Trelleborg’s marine systems operation has launched ‘The Fender Quality Framework’, a new online resource hub designed to help port owners, operators, and specifiers take a smarter approach to fender design and selection.
‘The Fender Quality Framework’ comprises research reports, webinars and more. From design best practice to ingredient selection, manufacturing to performance verification testing, it provides visitors with access to Trelleborg’s near decade of in-depth marine research, which continues to drive up standards for port equipment. The resource will be continuously updated in line with Trelleborg’s marine systems operation’s ongoing efforts to evolve best practice guidance for fender systems.
Ports need to have the confidence that their equipment is fit for purpose to fully protect terminals and berthing vessels, while keeping the port running safely and efficiently. Fenders are an essential part of this port infrastructure and as such their ability to perform reliably day-in, day-out is also essential.
Historically, the industry has undervalued this mission critical equipment, with many often prepared to take a risk on low cost, inferior alternatives. However, decision makers are increasingly giving whole life costs greater precedence, which is naturally steering them towards high quality, high performance fender systems. Trelleborg has long invested significant time and resources to arm specifiers with the information they need to take a smarter approach to fender specification, design and manufacturing. The Fender Quality Framework provides the perfect platform to continue to do exactly that.
